So, I had to sequence the 9 tracks as part of the process. I first thought, "Hey! Let me sequence them in their order of creation!". But I didn't like that, so I tried things and came up with this.
It is a disc with more mood swings than a 2-year-old (ask me how I know...).
Make Stuff Up starts with a shoegaze trance mood, Guilty Little Cheato; lampooning a fictional character overly obsessed with professing their innocence. Then into a swing-boogie guitar and scat throw-down fest in Heh-Meh-Neh-Hey.
Those are followed by an out-of-character departure into arena rock crunch with lyrics by RunningWolf: Pretending Too.
Now it swings back again to a feel-good, takes-it's-time folk rock vibe, describing
how You'll Come Around when you hear the sound. And yet another mood swing ensues with smoky wah-wah funk-rock in Eye To Eye, featuring the recurring lyrical theme of socio-economic and political satire/screed.What comes next is quite out-of-the-blue IMHO. Sand in my Guns. It is, now, pretty much how it first came out, live, in a FB stream back in February 2021. Deliberately slow and melancholy, it too holds to a recurring lyrical theme: absurdity. The lyrics are punctuated by long, moaning guitar harmonies and lament things like the lack of cookies and the loss of a harpoon.
At this point, we mood-swing our bad selves yet again into a story-song rendered in the bluegrass style, Watt Road. The lyrics explore that hypnotic trance one can enter while driving alone at night, and the mental gymnastics that ensue when one snaps out of it but can't figure out where the hell they are!
More of a bounce than a mood swing, we land right back into a guitar-driven funk rock screed. This one, Ain't No Invasion, is delivered in the character of a mad totalitarian ruler trying to pass off his obvious invasion and ensuing defeat as...well...anything else. More guitar harmonies and wah-wah!
Finally, we let you down easy with a nice little instrumental number, Noodlin. Some layered guitar parts again, including slide guitar, This track just barely survived the production process. Its lyrics did not! Sometimes that happens.
